lockdown birthday

Cathrine:  And then I’ve just opened the last one which is “Lockdown birthday” so during lockdown?

Lucy: No, no, it wasn’t actually it was that was April as well.

Cathrine: Oh right.

Lucy: So, there was a flurry of social activity [all at once that the pictures document], I haven’t spent my whole lockdown seeing [people]….

Cathrine: Socialising?

Lucy: …a flurry of activity just after sort of halfway through the Easter holidays.  So, all three of those photographs are from the Easter holidays I think and yeah, basically, again, this is a friend, this is to celebrate a friend’s 50th birthday. This birthday was last March just after the first lockdown started and there was supposed to be a group of about ten or twelve of us going down to be in Yorkshire to a cottage and a neighbour’s cottage as well that obviously had to be postponed and she changed it to this March but obviously, it couldn’t happen this March either so that was a substitute.  So, by the time she actually celebrates her 50th birthday properly she will be 52!  She’s booked it for next March so that again that was nice - one of the first you know social occasions where a few of us could get together in the garden so…

Cathrine: Yes, and raise a toast and yeah.

Lucy: Yeah, definitely yeah.

Cathrine: Aw, lovely.

Lucy: And things like you know we were sitting around oh, a fire pit for that and you know it makes it really special it makes it really nice and you come away smelling of the fire and you know sort of your nose is cold everything else is warm but your nose is freezing cold and you know one time I had to move away from the fire pit because my legs were starting to burn up!

Cathrine: Oh gosh!

Lucy: And oh, the rubber on my trainers, everyone was worried that, the smell of it! So I had to move away, but things like that you just wouldn’t have done it, you wouldn’t sit in a garden around a fire pit in cold weather [before]. It was a really cold day!

it just seems all wrong

Dear Cate
After we last spoke about Brexit/Covid, my partner gave me this mug! So I thought I would send a picture of it to you (if it's not too late) as my "Covid object". I feel so mixed about it - it's from my partner, and I find it really funny - yet as someone who loves Pooh and Piglet, it is also so sad that these innocent little creatures have to socially distance in this way. It just seems all wrong - and I wonder if I'll use it once the pandemic is history...
Hope you are well and that the project is making progress!
Best wishes
Julia
